A Nice Surprise from the NY Rangers.

Just as I was getting out of the shower this morning, there was a knock at the door. Before I could make it to the door, I heard the familiar rumble of the big brown truck as it drove away. I peeked outside and picked up the package that was addressed to Gadget and sent from Hollywood Records.

"Babe, you got something from Hollywood Records", I told Gadget, both confused and curious as to what was lurking inside.

"Nope, You got something from Hollywood Records", he told me.

I had nearly forgotten that months ago Joey from Hollywood Records told me he'd send me a jersey signed by the NY Rangers, my most favorite NHL team. I tore the package open to discover the glory stored within:

Shocking as it was to see pink instead of red, white, and blue, it's grown on me. Now I won't look so dykey when I'm cheering on the Rangers!

I love getting presents, and getting them for no particular reason other than being my awesome self is THE BEST!

Let's Go Islanders!

Oh the joys of Island life...

Dan very awesomely hooked Mystic Diva and I up with tickets to the Islanders vs. Ducks hockey game at Nassau Coliseum. Unfortunately we had to take a ladder, helicopter, and two hot-air balloons to get to our seats, and since our last NHL adventure, we've become quite snobbish about where we sit. Naturally, we decided to take matters into our own hands.

From our sky-high section we scoped out the desired seats - center ice, second row. Only when we made it from the boonies down to said seats, we discovered that one of them had a jacket on it - not a good sign. Casually acting as though we had merely passed our seats in all the puck-passing, body-checking excitement, we scooted into a couple of open seats in row 7. With these new and improved seats we could really enjoy the game! Man, I love me some hockey!

There was lots of brawling and roughhousing between the two teams - I loved it! The Islanders won with a 2-1 victory over Anaheim. After the game, we got bundled up and prepared to leave the Coliseum and head home. The iguana had other plans for us. On our way to the car, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a giant red sign reading, "Marriott". I felt butterflies in my belly. "I bet that's where the Ducks are staying", I told Mystic. "I bet there's a bar inside, maybe a nice lounge...wanna' go Duck-hunting?" We giggled with schoolgirl delight and made a mad dash for the hotel.

By our second round of drinks, the Ducks were arriving, and I was really thrilled with myself for this brilliant little plan! What happened from that point forward is sort of a blur: Rum runners, SoCo & lime, and the kind of conversations that memories are made of.

You see, a night at the hockey game is never just a night at the hockey game: it's a fothermuckin' adventure!

Praise be to the iguana.

Amen.

Let's Go Rangers!

A couple weeks ago, I asked Gadget to see if he could get us tickets to the Kings vs. Rangers game. It had been an absurdly long time since I'd seen my boys play and I didn't want to miss the chance to catch them in LA. Plus, I wanted Mystic Diva to experience the glory of big sweaty men on ice skates. Sure enough, my man scored 4 tickets through "The Gadget Hookup", but since we had to pick 'em up at the box office, we had no idea where we'd be sitting.

Chimpo joined Mystic, Gadget, and I at the Staples Center. We picked up our tickets to find out that we were sitting in row 17, right around center ice - SWEET! Plus, we had passes to the Wachovia Chairman's Room.

The game was just as I expected it to be - a high-energy entertainment-fest! After two periods, loads of nachos, and a few pints of beer, Mystic suggested we check out the Chairman's Room. Actually, she attempted to tell me that Rob Zombie would be there. When she starts talking crazy like that, I usually just give in to her requests. So off we went, leaving the boys behind.

Nobody could give us detailed directions of how to get there, so we found ourselves in the first row with four empty seats calling our names. "This must be it!" we guessed delightedly. After grabbing two seats, calling the guys down to join us, and kicking out the yam bag who jacked one of the seats, we realized it wasn't quite a room, and there was nothing "chairmanly" about it. Undaunted, we continued to watch the rest of the game from the front row. I could actually feel the frigid air blowing off the ice, and there's something really exhilarating about seeing a 200-pound man body-check another guy only inches away from your face with nothing but a quarter inch piece of plexiglas to protect you.

The game went into overtime and ended with the Rangers scoring the winning goal. Shortly after the arena emptied out, we made our way out of our beloved front-row seats and back to reality. We walked out the nearest exit only to discover that the Chairman's Room was right there! And it was just a swanky, stuffy bar. Not nearly as cool as front-row seats, bitches.

Mystic and I giggled, amused with our shenanigans. "I need to add 'front-row hockey tickets' to the list of things I want in my life", she told me.

Yeah, me too.
